Answers to Common Questions

Questions, Answered.

Everything you normally have to DM Syd to ask — from appointment prep and pricing to maintenance intervals and studio policies.

What service should I book?+

Use our guided Find Your Formula selector or browse the Services & Formulas menu. If you are doing a big change, correcting box dye, or trying vivids for the first time, book a Color Consultation — that's exactly what it's for.

Do you accept new clients?+

Yes! New clients are warmly welcomed at The Hair Apothecary. Start by reviewing our New Client Guide to learn about our studio philosophy, appointment prep, and what to expect in the chair, or reserve your appointment online.

Do I need a consultation first?+

For major transformations, dramatic dark-to-light color shifts, corrective color, or first-time vivids, yes. For precision haircuts or maintenance refreshes of existing color, you can book directly online.

Can I bring inspiration photos?+

Please do! Bring photos in natural daylight of your current hair, plus 2–4 inspiration images — including ones you don't like so Syd knows what to avoid. You can also explore The Work Portfolio to see real client transformations created right here in Bakersfield.

How much will my hair cost?+

Pricing depends on your hair's starting canvas, length, density, chemical history, and end goal. Current starting rates and time estimates are published on our Services & Pricing menu and our online booking page, with exact all-inclusive quotes given during your consultation.

Can I go blonde or copper in one session?+

Sometimes. While vibrant copper and red tones can often be achieved in a single custom session, major blonde lifts may require multi-step appointments to protect hair health. Check out our Copper Aftercare Guide or schedule a consultation for an honest timeline.

Do you do corrective color?+

Yes — color correction is a core specialty. Corrective work begins with an in-person consultation and strand test so Syd can assess hair integrity and formulate a safe game plan. Read more on our Color Transformations page.

How do I maintain copper hair in Bakersfield heat?+

Cool-water washing, sulfate-free color-safe shampoo, UV heat protectants, and a gloss refresh every 6–8 weeks keep copper tones luminous. Dive into our dedicated Copper & Red Aftercare Guide for Syd's heat-tested routine.

How do I maintain vivid and alternative color?+

Cold-water rinses, fewer wash days per week, color-depositing conditioners, and regular gloss refreshes prevent premature pigment fade. Review our Vivid Aftercare Guide and Vivid Color Service Details for pro maintenance tips.

Should I wash my hair before my appointment?+

Wash your hair 24 to 48 hours prior. Avoid excessive dry shampoo, root cover-up powders, or heavy styling waxes on appointment day so formulas penetrate evenly. Full prep steps are outlined in our New Client Guide.

Where is the studio located and where should I park?+

The Hair Apothecary is located inside Serendipity Salon at 7737 Meany Ave, Ste B1, Bakersfield, CA 93308. We have abundant free on-site parking directly in front of Suite B1 with step-free accessible spaces. Visit our Location & Directions page or open directly in Google Maps ↗.

Can I bring my children or guests to my appointment?+

To ensure a quiet, relaxing adult sanctuary and for safety around chemical formulations and hot tools, The Hair Apothecary has a strict No Kids and solo-client policy. Extra guests and children are not permitted in the styling studio. Read our full Studio Policies.

What amenities are provided in the studio?+

We provide complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, a stocked snack bar with beverages, step-free wheelchair access with an ADA restroom, abundant free parking, and an LGBTQIA+ friendly and affirming space. Full details are on our Accessibility Page.

Do you offer Spa treatments, Braids, Locs, and Hair Extensions?+

Yes! In addition to signature red, copper, gray coverage, and vivid coloring, The Hair Apothecary offers Hair Extensions, Braids, Locs, and restorative Spa treatments. Browse our Full Services catalog or check our online booking calendar for current openings.

What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?+

We request at least 48 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling to allow clients on our waitlist to book. You can manage or reschedule anytime via your confirmation email link. Review the full terms on our Policies Page.
